iPhone 15 Pro with USB-C could charge faster

iPhone 15 rumors suggest new USB-C

It's no secret that Apple will have to switch out the Lighting port for a USB-C port on all their European iPhone models by the end of 2024, thanks to new EU rules. But it's not certain whether this change will take place with this year's iPhone 15 series, and if so, will the US see the same port changes too?

Rumours say that the iPhone 15 charging port will more than likely be switched to a USB-C, as reports claim that Apple has already begun testing iPhone models with USB-C ports. And it doesn't stop there, with claims that Apple is also working on an adapter that would enable USB-C iPhone models to work with Lightning connections.

Is USB-C better than Lightning?

So why will the switch from Lightning to USB-C be such a big deal for iPhone users? Well, the transition could result in more perks, such as faster charging.

One obvious perk of the iPhone 15 charging port changing from Lightning to USB-C is that the latter port is much more universal and convenient. With other Apple products already sporting USB-C ports and charging cables, the switch would make Apple's chargers more consistent. Plus, you'd be able to charge your iPhone with both an iPad/MacBook charger, or an Android charger!

The main benefit to come from the port transition is the improved speeds the USB-C would offer – especially to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. Apple's Lightning port is pretty outdated and although Apple has improved the charging speeds of most iPhone models, the speeds achieved are no match when compared to what Android phones can offer.

What iPhone 15 models will have fast charging?

Wondering "will iPhone 15 have fast charging?" If the USB-C port is introduced, it's likely that the iPhone 15 will have faster charging than the previous iPhone 14 model simply due to the port's advanced features. But will the iPhone 15 be the fastest-charging iPhone in the series? We don't think so.

If you're looking to upgrade to the fastest model within the iPhone 15 series, you may want to consider the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. Some rumours suggest that only the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will support high-speed data transfers over USB-C.

While we won't know for certain whether this rumour is true, speculation suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro charging speed will be one of many upgraded features Apple has introduced to further separate the flagship iPhone 15 from the Pro models.
