Samsung Galaxy S24

It's no surprise that this year's Samsung Unpacked unveiled a new line of S Series phone models. The Galaxy S24 line was very much the focus of the entire event, and for good reason!

The entry-level Samsung Galaxy S24 model boasts a 6.2-inch FHD+ display with a 12MP selfie camera. On the rear of the model, you'll find a triple-camera setup featuring a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 50MP wide lens and a 10MP telephoto lens.

You'll find a 4,000 mAh battery within the Galaxy S24 model, along with 8GB of RAM and two storage options: 128GB and 256GB. Samsung also claims that you can get up to 50% charge in roughly half an hour with a 25W adapter using a 3A USB-C cable compatible with PD technology.

In terms of design, there are plenty of colour options for the Galaxy S24 including Onyx Black, Marble Gray, Cobalt Violet, Amber Yellow, Jade Green, Sapphire Blue, and Sandstone.

You can currently pre-order all of the Samsung Galaxy S24 models, but the official Samsung Galaxy S24 release date is on the 31st of January.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 starts at £799 for 128GB and then up to £859 for 256GB.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus

If you're a fan of Samsung's Plus range, then you'll be happy to hear that Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S24 Plus. This model features a 6.7-inch QHD+ dynamic display with a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

You'll get a 12MP front-facing camera, while the rear features a triple camera setup with a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 50MP wide lens and a 10MP telephoto lens.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus boasts a 4,900 mAh battery, 12GB of RAM and two storage options: 256GB and 512GB.

As for the colour options, the Galaxy S24 Plus comes in seven colours: Onyx Black, Marble Gray, Cobalt Violet, Amber Yellow, Jade Green, Sapphire Blue, and Sandstone.

The S24+ will set you back at least £999 for 256GB and £1,099 for 512GB.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy S24 Ultra, the most powerful S Series model yet. It features a 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED 2X display with an adaptive refresh rate that can go up to 120Hz.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra also features a 12MP front camera and a triple camera setup on the back boasting a 12MP Ultra-Wide lens, a 200MP Wide lens, A 50MP Telephoto lens and a 10MP Telephoto lens. Thanks to the improved Nightography feature, you'll be able to take even better photos while in low-light settings.

In terms of storage, you'll get a choice of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, while the only RAM configuration is 12GB. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which has improved ray-tracing and includes an optimal thermal control system with a maximum of 1.9 times larger vapour chamber.

This model boasts an incredible 5,000 mAh battery and is available in Titanium Gray, Titanium Black, Titanium Violet, Titanium Yellow, Titanium Green, Titanium Blue, and Titanium Orange.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra starts at £1,249 for 256GB, £1,349 for 512GB and £1,549 for 1TB.

Galaxy AI

Arguably one of the biggest announcements of this year's Samsung Unpacked event is Samsung's new Galaxy AI tool. The AI tool will be included in the new lineup of flagship phone models and is said to incorporate "meaningful intelligence to enhance every part of life."

Wondering what exactly the Galaxy AI tool can do and why on earth you'd need or even want it on your phone? You're not alone! Here's a breakdown of everything the Galaxy AI tool will be able to do, so you have a better understanding of this amazing new technology:

  • Live Translate: You'll be able to hear real-time translations when you're on a phone call and your recipient will be able to hear you in their spoken language too! You'll also get a transcript of the call.
  • Transcript Assist: You can transcribe, translate, and summarise recordings and text in the Samsung Notes app.
  • Chat Assist: When you're unsure of how to phrase a message, Galaxy AI can help you write your messages by providing alternatives in different tonalities.
  • Generative Edit: You can modify images by circling subjects and moving, resizing, or removing them from the background. You can also expand images with generative fill.
  • Circle to Search with Google: You can long-press the home button to prompt a screen overlay where you can circle an object to perform an image-based Google search.

Pretty cool, right? All features except those that are specific to camera hardware will be available across the new S24 models, so if there's a certain camera AI feature you want, you may need to look into which model supports that feature.

Galaxy Ring

While this device wasn't officially launched, Dr Matthew Wiggins, clinical research scientist at Samsung Research, spent the final minutes of the Unpacked event teasing us all with snippets of the Galaxy Ring.

Made to rival the Oura Ring, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is a smart ring powered by Galaxy AI. The wearable will have the ability to monitor for potential sleep apnea symptoms by tracking sleep patterns, blood oxygen changes and maintaining heart rate alerts during sleep.

The health tracking ring will also offer medication reminders and produce helpful insights about potential interactions with foods or other medications you take.

There's not much else we know about the Galaxy Ring, but we can't wait to see what Samsung has in store for us later down the line!
