Design rumours

Vertical stacked lenses with pill-shaped camera bump

Recent iPhone 16 design leaks by Sonny Dickson on X have sparked excitement among Apple enthusiasts. According to the leaked images, we could see the return of vertical stacked lenses, reminiscent of the iPhone 12 models. If these iPhone 16 rumours are true, this will be a significant change to the iPhone 16 camera layout.

The new vertical stacked lenses could be more than just an aesthetic choice; it might also hint at new features tailored for the upcoming Vision Pro headset. Specifically, the redesigned camera setup could enhance the device’s ability to capture Spatial Video, allowing for more immersive experiences.

With the rumoured vertical stack also comes a change to the dreaded camera bump. Instead of continuing with the square camera bump which has housed the camera lenses of all four iPhone models since the iPhone 11, we could see a return to a pill-shaped design for the standard iPhone 16. This smaller camera bump will house the microphone, Wide and Ultrawide lenses, while the camera flash will be located on the back of the device outside of the bump.

Is this rumour fact or fiction?

While we can’t guarantee anything, we’re pretty confident in this rumour.

Action button

While the Action button may be old news for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users, those who prefer the standard iPhone models could finally get their hands on last year’s added feature.

The Action button would replace the mute switch, offering customisable actions for quick access to your favourite functions. It’s also said that Apple intends to move the volume buttons from the right-hand side of the iPhone to the left-hand side, below the Action button.

Is this rumour fact or fiction?

This seems like the next step for Apple, especially considering they did the exact thing for the Dynamic Island.

New colours

Another exciting iPhone 16 rumour making the rounds is the possibility of seven colour options. The rumoured palette includes blue, pink, yellow, green, black, white and purple. However, there’s some debate amongst insiders.

Some suggest Apple might go all out with these seven hues, while others believe the company will stick to the more traditional five colours, possibly swapping out the yellow for a classic white.

In terms of the iPhone 16 design, it’s said that the iPhone 16 will all adopt the same colour-infused glass back from the previous iPhone 15 models.

Is this rumour fact or fiction?

We think it’s pretty likely that the colour-infused glass back is here to stay, but seven colour options seem a little far-fetched.

Display rumours

When it comes to iPhone 16 display leaks, rumours are severely lacking. Claims suggest that Apple may not be making any significant upgrades to the standard iPhone 16’s display, instead sticking with a familiar 6.1-inch display and 60Hz refresh rate.

If true, this news is quite underwhelming considering most smartphones now offer refresh rates of 90Hz.

We’ll have to wait for the Keynote event to see if there’s any truth to this rumour.

Performance rumours

A18 chipset

According to a MacRumors report featuring statements from Jeff Pu, an executive analyst for Haitong International Securities, the iPhone 16 will receive the A18 chipset, which isn’t too surprising as Apple tend to use a new processor each year.

There could also see a RAM boost to 8GB, up from 6GB in the iPhone 15 models. This means that the standard iPhone 16 model might come with 8GB of RAM, which Apple suggests is the minimum for running large language models (the algorithms behind AI) directly on the device instead of relying on the cloud.

Is this rumour fact or fiction?

We can confidently say that the iPhone 16 will feature a new A-Series chip, but can’t say for certain if it will be the A18.

Battery upgrade

Rumours also suggest that the iPhone 16 might receive a welcomed battery upgrade. According to a new iPhone 16 leak from serial Apple tipster Majin Bu, the device is expected to feature a 6% larger battery, increasing from 3,349mAh in the iPhone 15 to around 3,561mAh. While this might seem like a small jump, it could still offer a bit more endurance for everyday tasks, especially if Apple intend to ramp up the AI features.

Is this rumour fact or fiction?

Honestly, this could go either way! We’ll have to wait for the Keynote event to see.

Camera rumours

No camera upgrades

If you’re hoping for a major overhaul when it comes to the iPhone 16 cameras, you might left feeling disappointed. Current iPhone 16 leaks suggest that the standard iPhone 16 model is expected to retain the same camera setup as last year’s iPhone 15.

This means we could see the continuation of the 48MP main sensor paired with a 12MP Ultrawide sensor. While this might not be the news you were hoping for, it is worth noting that the current iPhone cameras are already rather exceptional.

Is this rumour fact or fiction?

We hope not, but we can’t be sure until Apple tells all at the Keynote event in September.

New Capture button

While we haven’t heard any iPhone 16 camera rumours suggesting lens updates, there have been rumours of a new Capture button. Positioned at the bottom right side of the device, it will apparently work similarly to the shutter button to capture images. The button is said to detect varying levels of pressure, offering a more intuitive experience for snapping photos, especially in landscape mode.

We’re not entirely sold on this one, but it would be a cool new feature!
