iPhone using 5G network

Are 5G phones worth it?

We're in the era of 5G, and with it comes new opportunities for phone users. But are 5G phones worth the investment?

Some experts believe this new technology could change how we interact with our phones. But what are the real-world implications of this new technology, and is it really necessary for your everyday phone use? Keep reading to find out.

What is 5G and how does it work?

5G is the 5th generation mobile network, supposedly providing faster data speeds, lower latency, and more capacity than current 4G networks. This new network is said to be designed to connect virtually everyone and everything together, unlike any other previous network.

5G networks use various new technologies, including millimetre waves, massive MIMO, and beamforming. While speeds vary depending on the number of users on the network and the distance from the 5G cell tower (like all networks do), it's still up to 100 times faster than 4G.

5G uses a higher frequency of radio waves than previous generations of wireless technology, meaning that 5G signals can carry more data and travel faster than 4G signals. The new network also benefits from the new massive MIMO antenna, which allows more data to be transmitted simultaneously.

How will 5G improve your phone's performance?

5G offers a number of improvements over 4G and even 4G LTE!

5G phones have faster speeds, meaning you'll be able to download movies in seconds, stream high-definition video without buffering, and make video calls with crystal-clear clarity – all while on the go.

Additionally, 5G networks can support more devices, so you won't have to worry about losing connection in crowded areas. 5G also has lower latency, meaning there will be less lag when you're using applications that require real-time response, such as online gaming or augmented reality which is becoming increasingly popular.

Regarding performance, 5G phones will definitely be the better option to choose from.

What's the potential downside of 5G technology

5G phones using network for internet connection

While 5G offers much more than any prior network, there are some potential downsides that 5G consumers should be aware of before making the switch!

One potential downside is that the 5G rollout has been pretty slow. Not every town and city across the UK will have access to 5G networks, so some may find it hard to feel the benefits. Since 5G requires a lot of infrastructures, it remains to be seen whether telecom companies can keep up with the demand.

Additionally, 5G waves are shorter than 4G waves, which means they can't travel as far. This could result in dead spots or patchy coverage in rural areas since the 5G rollout is already behind.

Another concern that has become somewhat of a conspiracy is the impact 5G could have on your health. 5G produces electromagnetic fields (EMFs) caused by electromagnetic radiation, specifically nonionizing EMFs. It's important to note that these types of EMFs are low-level radiation. While there isn't any evidence to support any theories, many people (including some doctors and scientists) disagree with the rollout of 5G, citing cancer risks.

Should you upgrade to a 5G phone?

5G phones are the latest and greatest in mobile technology, but should you upgrade?

For those who don't mind a slightly slower connection, there's nothing wrong with staying with a 4G phone – at least until the 5G rollout has been improved!

But if you're looking for the cutting edge of mobile technology and are eager to have the fastest connection, then a 5G phone is the way to go. Although, you'll have to check to see if your area has 5G coverage before you make an upgrade!
