What is a factory reset?

A factory reset is usually a last resort option if your console and controller aren't responding when you give it a command. Please be aware that a factory reset will completely wipe your console's hard drive and, in some cases, remove system software. It's recommended that you back up your PS4 data beforehand in order not to lose any important game files.

You should also deactivate your PS4 as your primary unit. You can do this by:

1. Going to Settings and selecting PlayStation Network/Account Management
2. Choose Activate as Your Primary PS4 then click Deactivate then select Yes
3. Once the deactivation process has finished, select OK to complete

How to factory reset

To reset your PS4 from your console's dashboard:

1. Log in and go to Settings
2. Go to Initialisation then choose Initialize PS4
3. Choose Full, then Initialise
4. Select Yes. Your console will now factory reset

To reset your PS4 from Safe Mode:

1. Press and hold the power button on your console until you hear it beep twice.
2. Choose Initialise PS4 and select this option. This will wipe all user data, restoring your PS4 to its factory settings.
