iPhone 16 storage rumours
A recent report suggests that Apple might set 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage as the new standard for the upcoming iPhone 16 series.
AI requires a significant amount of data to store, think and process commands, and with Apple’s push to improve its AI features this year, it seems like upping the storage on the new iPhone 16 models is Apple’s only option.
Another iPhone 16 rumour claims that the Pro models will see a new higher storage capacity of 2TB, although we’re not sure how accurate this rumour is.
What were the iPhone 15 storage options?
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus came with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, along with 256GB and 512GB options.
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max came with 8GB of RAM. However, the storage capacity varied between the two models. The iPhone 15 Pro is available in several storage options including 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max is available in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options.
What are the expected iPhone 16 storage options?
If both storage iPhone 16 rumours are true, we could see iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models with 8GB of RAM and available in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models would come with 8GB of RAM with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB options.
Which storage size should you buy?
We’re still very much in the early rumour stages, but if these storage rumours are true, then it might be worth deciding which storage capacity you’ll need if you’re thinking about upgrading to the iPhone 16 series.
If you don’t tend to store many things on your phone (photos, videos, music, apps, files etc) then the 128GB and 256GB options are perfectly fine. However, if you’re looking to upgrade to the standard iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Plus and tend to max out your storage, then the 512GB might be better suited for you.
If you’re looking to buy a Pro model but don’t tend to store lots on your device, then the 256GB and 512GB are suitable options. For those that store lots on their phones (especially those huge RAW and ProRes files) then the 1TB or 2TB option might be best.
