The Surprisingly Easy App of the Week: Soundcloud

Every Thursday, we bring you an app that'll make your life easier. This week, it's the turn of Soundcloud!

What is it?

Soundcloud is one of the world's biggest music libraries, with 1000s (possibly millions"¦) of bands and artists uploading their music for the world to listen to (and buy, hopefully).

It's been described as YouTube for music, giving people the opportunity to discover new bands and bands the opportunity to reach new fans.

All in all, it's essential if you love music.

Why is it surprisingly easy?

The app brings all of the excellent features of the site to your phone: the ability to stream songs, explore trending music, create or listen to playlists, browse by genre and follow people with similar tastes to yours.

Both Soundcloud apps are incredibly well designed too, which makes finding your favourite new band easy.

How will it change your life?

The internet has undoubtedly made finding new music easier. In some ways, though, it's made it harder too; there's just so much to choose from, and not enough hours in the day to listen to it all.

Soundcloud, while not perfect, is the most efficient way of discovering new bands and artists. Plus, you can tell people you liked bands before they were cool while sipping on a soy latte. Lovely!

Any downsides?

Like YouTube, Soundcloud is a massive data drain. If you've got a limited data plan, don't stream willy nilly – unless you like unexpectedly expensive phone bills.
