iPhone 15 Size and Dimensions – What are the Design Upgrades?

Trying to decide on which iPhone model to upgrade to ahead of the new iPhone 15 launch? Whether it's that pesky camera bump you're worried about or how big the Pro Max model will be in your pocket, here are all the iPhone 15 design rumours to consider!

In this blog:

Sizing and dimensions

Looking for iPhone 15 specifications on sizing? We've got you covered! Although we can only go off leaked reports for now, here are the rumoured dimensions for the new iPhone 15 series:

  • iPhone 15 – 146.7 mm x 71.5 mm x 7.4 mm
  • iPhone 15 Plus – 160.7 x 77.6 x 7.9 mm
  • iPhone 15 Pro – 146.7 mm x 71.5 mm x 7.4 mm
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max – 159.86 x 76.73 x 8.25 mm

And it's not just the overall dimensions of the iPhone 15 series that have been leaked, as we've got the rumoured camera bump sizing too! The camera bump on the iPhone 15 Pro Max is supposedly 3.59mm – that's a 15% reduction in size when compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max's 4.18mm camera bump.

Colours

There are several reports of new iPhone 15 colours ahead of September's launch. For the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, we could see a new dark red colour, along with the usual White, Space Black and Gold options.

And for the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, it is reported the models could come in light pink and light blue colours.

The Dynamic Island

Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro

While the Dynamic Island isn't a new feature, most Apple fans will be excited to hear that rumours suggest the feature could now be offered to all models in the new iPhone 15 series.

If true, we'll finally be able to enjoy the Dynamic Island without shelling out extra to buy a Pro or Pro Max model – although the feature will now be a year old.

For those that already have an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max, this won't be a new feature for you, nor will it be a new design change either.

Frosted glass back

It's said that Apple will be tweaking the iPhone 15 design for this year, opting for a frosted glass back on the entire iPhone 15 series – this would be the first time that an entire iPhone series had the same glass back design.

Flagship iPhone models have sported glossy backs since the iPhone 4 launched in 2010, but since the launch of the first-ever Pro model in 2019, the Pro and Pro Max models have had a frosted/matte-textured glass back to differentiate between the models.

If these iPhone 15 leaks are true, this design change would bring the flagship iPhone 15 even closer in resemblance to the Pro and Pro Max models.

Charging port

Thanks to European regulations, the iPhone 15 series could have a brand-new charging port.

A new EU regulation is mandating a common charger for all electronics in an attempt to reduce e-waste, and the chosen charger type is the USB-C. Since the iPhone uses a lightning port, this means that Apple will have to switch it in favour of a USB-C port.

The deadline for the switch is 2024, so there's a chance that Apple could delay the switch until next year's iPhone launch instead. However, it's also possible that Apple will start the transition now.

This switch would bring Apple's smartphones closer in line with other USB-C Apple products such as the iPad and MacBook, which would be handy for those who own multiple Apple products.
