New camera specs to expect from the iPhone 15 series:

48-megapixel main cameras for everyone

Apple may have finally gotten the hint and ditched the outdated 12MP main camera for their flagship and Plus models.

While Apple brought in the 48MP main camera for their iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models last year, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus were left with the less-than-impressive 12MP main camera still.

However, rumour has it that with this year's iPhone 14 launch, all the phones will be getting the higher resolution sensor. This is great news for those wishing for a better camera system without splashing out on a Pro or Pro Max model.

An increase in megapixels means higher resolution in photos, giving your iPhone more image data to work with to produce more detailed photos.

Improved low-light and exposure sensor

Another iPhone 15 camera rumour doing the rounds is that Apple has added a new and improved main camera sensor from Sony that will enhance low-light photography.

The sensor works by capturing more light, thereby giving the camera more control over handling exposure. If true, the new iPhone models could be better at reducing overexposure in bright conditions and underexposure in lower-light situations.

Periscope camera for the iPhone 15 Pro Max

For those who prefer the Pro Max iPhone models, reports suggest that this year's iPhone 15 Pro Max camera could have an exclusive feature… a periscope lens! If Apple chooses to include a periscope lens, it would mean much greater optical zoom.

When comparing Apple's previous Pro Max model to Samsung's latest Galaxy S23 Ultra, Apple's mere 3x telephoto range doesn't quite match up to Samsung's 10x optical zoom on one of its telephoto cameras.

Other rumours suggest the periscope lens could be held back until next year and given to a new iPhone Ultra model instead, but we'll have to wait and see!

A new chipset with boosted neural processing

It's very possible that Apple will upgrade the chipset in the new iPhone 15 range, which could result in even better photos.

A boosted chip could have enhanced Neural Engine capabilities which would improve smart features, one of which is the application of artificial intelligence to image signal processing. In none technical terms, it means that your iPhone would take multiple shots and stitch them all together to create one photo.

There's a chance that Apple could reserve a new chipset for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models only, as this was the case for last year's iPhone 14 range.
